How Does HPV Screening Work?
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common cause of sexually transmitted infection worldwide. It is essentially a large virus family with more than 200 different known types. 80-85% of sexually active people contract some type of HPV during their lifetime.
The good news is that in most cases – approximately 80-90% – a healthy immune system naturally eliminates the virus from the body within 1-2 years. The problem is caused by cases where the virus is not cleared from the body but persists for longer periods. This is called persistent infection, which can lead to serious health problems years later.
Low-risk HPV types (6, 11) mainly cause unpleasant but non-dangerous genital warts. High-risk types (16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58) can cause malignant tumors – cervical cancer and vaginal cancer in women, penile cancer and anal cancer in men, as well as head and neck cancers in both sexes.
Our institute offers comprehensive HPV screening programs and effective vaccination (Gardasil-9) that provides protection against nine different HPV types.
HPV vaccination is currently the most effective method for preventing HPV infection and its consequences. Through vaccination, the body’s immune system learns to recognize HPV viruses and can effectively defend against them from the early stages of infection. Vaccination is most effective ideally before the start of sexual activity, but it also provides significant protection later. Countries with vaccination programs have already achieved remarkable results: there has been a dramatic decrease in precancerous conditions and genital warts among younger generations!

What Symptoms Warrant HPV Screening?
For Women
For Men

How Does HPV Screening Work?
HPV Screening Process:
- The examination always begins with a thorough inquiry about the patient’s complaints. Our specialist obtains information about general complaints, menstrual cycle, sexual health, and previous cytological results.
- The specialist reviews previous gynecological diseases, surgeries, medications taken, and available previous documentation.
- During the gynecological examination, the external and internal genital organs are examined, and the condition of the cervix is assessed.
- For cytological examination, a sample is taken: we take a smear from the cervix, which is sent to an external laboratory. Here, cell analysis takes place. Simultaneously, the HPV test is performed, which identifies possible virus types in the sample.
- If necessary, colposcopy is used to examine the cervix and identify macroscopically visible abnormalities.
- If necessary, our specialist performs a vaginal ultrasound to examine the ovaries and uterus.
Who Should Receive the Gardasil-9 Vaccine?
- recommended for both sexes from age 9
- ideal timing: before starting sexual activity
- beneficial at any age later in life
- recommended even with previous HPV infection
Gardasil-9 Vaccination Process:
- Our specialist provides detailed information about the vaccine, its effects, side effects, and vaccination schedule.
- The vaccine is administered as an injection into the upper arm muscle. Two doses are required for ages 9-14, three doses for age 15 and above. This is administered by our nursing staff.
- After vaccination, the patient remains under observation for 15-20 minutes for possible early side effects.
Important: vaccination does not replace regular screening! The two together provide optimal protection.
HPV vaccination can be given regardless of HPV status, so even with HPV positivity.

Fast and Accurate HPV Diagnosis
The HPV screening basic package uses the most advanced laboratory technology to detect human papillomavirus infection. During the examination, a specialist takes a sample from the cervix through quick, painless swabbing, which is analyzed in the laboratory for HPV infection and precancerous conditions. Geomedical uses one of the most comprehensive HPV tests, which provides an extremely detailed picture of HPV status.
What exactly does the examination include?
- Cervical cytological smear collection by specialist
- HPV 28 test – Seegene AllplexTM HPV28 laboratory analysis
- Individual identification of 28 HPV types (19 high-risk + 9 low-risk)
HPV 28 Test Details
The Seegene AllplexTM HPV28 test can individually identify 28 different HPV types, determining not only the fact of infection but also the specific virus types. The test examines 19 high-risk and 9 low-risk genotypes, enabling personalized risk assessment.
High-risk genotypes (16, 18, 26, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 69, 73, 82) pose significant risk for cervical cancer and other genital tumors. It is particularly important that types 16 and 18 are responsible for approximately 70% of cervical cancer cases, so their separate identification is critically important for risk assessment.
Low-risk genotypes (6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 61, 70) typically cause benign changes, such as genital warts. Types 6 and 11 are responsible for 90% of genital warts, so their detection is also important for understanding the complete clinical picture.
Who do we recommend it for?
- After age 30, with negative cytology and negative HPV screening, HPV screening is recommended every 3-5 years
- In case of suspected HPV infection
- After symptoms or abnormal cytological results
- For follow-up after previous positive results or treatment

Comprehensive Gynecological Examination and HPV Screening
This expanded package combines complete gynecological specialist examination with specialized HPV screening, providing a comprehensive picture of women’s health. During the examination, the gynecologist specialist performs complex condition assessment, which is an ideal choice for those who want comprehensive gynecological control once a year.
What exactly does the examination include?
- Complete gynecological specialist examination
- Detailed cervical examination (colposcopy if necessary)
- Ultrasound examination as needed:
- Artemis 14 laboratory examination
- Conventional cervical smear (cytology)
- HPV 14 test
CINtec Plus biomarker (automatic activation in case of high-risk HPV positivity)
The Comprehensive Examination Process
The specialist takes a detailed medical history to assess symptoms, complaints, and family history, then performs a complete physical examination. In addition to bimanual examination, colposcopy may also be performed for more detailed cervical examination if necessary. If indicated, vaginal ultrasound examination may also be part of the comprehensive condition assessment.
Artemis 14 Laboratory System Specialty
The examination includes the modern Artemis 14 laboratory examination, which consists of three components. During the conventional cervical smear, morphological examination of cells takes place, enabling detection of precancerous conditions and inflammatory changes. The HPV 14 test specifically targets the identification of the 14 most important high-risk HPV types, enabling more accurate risk assessment.
The specialty of the Artemis 14 system is intelligent biomarker examination. If the HPV 14 test shows high-risk positivity, the CINtec Plus examination is automatically activated, which detects precancerous conditions with enhanced accuracy using p16/Ki-67 biomarkers. This automatic protocol helps determine further treatment strategy and reduces the number of unnecessary additional examinations.
Who do we recommend it for?
- After age 30, with negative cytology and negative HPV screening, HPV screening is recommended every 3-5 years, while cytology is due annually

In addition to conventional cervical smear and HPV 14 test, automatic CINtec Plus biomarker examination is also part of the package in case of high-risk HPV positivity.
Significance of STI Screening
Sexually transmitted infection screening is particularly important because these can be present in the body asymptomatically for years while gradually damaging the reproductive organs. Chlamydia is the most common bacterial STI, which can lead to infertility if left untreated. Gonorrhoea is a classic sexually transmitted disease that can also cause serious complications. Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma often cause urogenital infections, while Trichomonas as a parasitic infection can cause significant inflammation.
STI screening enables recognition of hidden infections, prevention of complications, prevention of further transmission, and minimization of pregnancy risks. Simultaneous examination of the five pathogens provides a comprehensive picture of sexual health status.
